Comment: update for 7x

...

Use the NLINK Management Module (NMM) to create and gather diagnostic trace files:

  1. Remove old files (optional)
If . If you are unsure whether existing log files might be helpful, just skip this step.
    1. From the NMM menu, choose Options >> Goto Logs Folder.
    2. Clear out any old files and/or folders that you know are irrelevant. You may not be able to delete all the files if NLINK is running, so don't worry about those.
  2. Gather logs.
    1. From the NMM menu, choose Tools >> Gather Logs.
    2. You may choose to deselect any files you know are irrelevant. If you are not sure, just leave everything selected.
    3. Change the name of the destination zip file, if desired.
    4. Click the OK button to create the designated zip file.

NLINK 7x is designed to run in "perpetual logging" mode, but if your particular environment has been set to not generate logs, you will need to follow these steps to create the diagnostic logs.

  1. Turn on the trace properties, if necessary.
    1. In the NMM, right-click on the top-most node (the server name).
    2. Choose System Properties from the context menu
    3. Set Create Dump File = Yes
    4. Set Debug Level = Debug
    5. Click the Save button
  2. Do whatever you need to do to create the situation that needs to be traced (e.g., run an NLINK event)
  3. Turn off the trace properties, if desired.
    1. In the NMM, right-click on the top-most node (the server name).
    2. Choose System Properties from the context menu
    3. Set Create Dump File = No
    4. Set Debug Level = Production (or leave it at Debug if appropriate)
    5. Click the Save button
  4. Gather logs
    1. Choose to include at least the NLINK.trc file and any other log files that are in the NLINK logs folder.
    2. Make sure all the logs have some data in them (check that files are non zero bytes in length when checking in windows explorer.
    3. An NLINK Event Log should also be included
    4. Gather all files and include them in a zip file.
In NMM, menu option "Tools→Gather Logs" can be used gather logs, but in some OS the zip file created may not include all  the files.
as describe in the previous section.

NLINK trace files can become very large. Be careful to monitor the size of the NLINK trace file so that it does not either become too large to send to Customer Support or fill up your hard disk.

tend to be small, but they do accumulate over time. You should monitor the Logs folder to purge obsolete files on a regular basis.
