SAP Gateways and Hosts

The relationship between the application server (host) and its gateway can vary, depending on the system landscape.

In the case of direct connection to the application server, the gateway will most likely be the same as the application server host.

In the case of load-balanced connections, the gateway is shared amongst one or more application servers. The gateway may be on the same host as one of the application servers:

Registering Connections

The NLINK RFC Listener CoNNector and NLINK IDOC CoNNector that receive calls initiated by SAP must register with the SAP Gateway.

In order to properly register, following parameters must be specified:

  1. the gateway hostname (or IP address)
  2. the gateway service name (or direct port number)
  3. program id as defined in RFC Connections (SM59)
  4. the SAP system id
