Event Log Settings

The NLINK Server makes use of the Windows Event Log. There are some operating system settings you should be aware of that affect the usability of these logs.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open the Windows Event Viewer (from Windows Control Panel Administrative Tools, or via the NMM).
  2. Find the NLINK Server entry in the Applications and Services Log section.
  3. Edit the NLINK Server Event Log Properties.

The maximum log size should be set big enough to feasibly capture the events of a specific period of time (e.g., one day) when running the NLINK Server in production mode. Determining this size is a matter of observing the quantity of messages produced by your NLINK configuration.

Since the event log is a primary troubleshooting tool, its maximum size must be a balance between capturing sufficient data and portability (you may need to e-mail or otherwise transfer an event log to a tech support group).

Most customers end up with a size between 20MB and 100MB.

It is highly recommended that the event log be set to wrap (overwrite events as needed), so that no newer messages are lost.
